Journals for wellbeing aren't for remembering the past, but for creating the future. Research students might agree that if you study a subject and don't keep a journal, you are allowing the neural connections to slowly get stale. Dr. Anuja Cabraal, on her blog supports the idea. She wrote, "Many great minds and historical figures used to journal, including Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Charles Darwin, Thomas Edison and many more."

She goes on to justify her notion on why research students should keep a journal. Aside from seeing things in writing which would help clarify ideas, she also adds how keeping a journal helps you keep a record of your reasons, justifications and decisions. The same can be said of keeping a wellbeing journal for your self-development.

  3. Journaling can help you process difficult experiences, especially if you're writing about them rather than just talking about them out loud (which might not be helpful for everyone).

  4. Journaling is fun! You get to think about what happened today and how it made you feel, which means that you get to think about things that happened to YOU all day long—and isn't that what life's all about?

  5. On an Anti-Anxiety Journal, you can write down what's stressing you out and then burn it to release your burden.

  6. On a Self-Care Journal,  you can write down all the things you love about yourself and then read it aloud to yourself every morning for a month.

  7. On a Gratitude Journal, you can write down three things each day that make you feel grateful for, whether that's for a friend who told you she loves your new hair colour or for finally getting through a book on the subway without crying.
